The beginning of the year also means a new start for yourself, a time for fresh energy, change and perhaps a little me-time. As the days get shorter and the nights get longer, there is no better time to pause and take care of yourself. A simple and effective way to relax both physically and mentally is to use face masks. Whether for skin care or simply to promote well-being, masks are a true miracle for the skin and a treat for the soul. With this extra portion of care, the skin is supplied with valuable active ingredients, looks fresher and regains its youthful glow.
The different types of masks and their advantages
There are many different types of nourishing face masks - each with their own benefits for different skin needs. The best way to decide which one to use depends on the condition of your skin and your skin needs. Of course, you can also seek advice from an experienced QMS beautician at your institute at any time.
Moisturising masks
These masks are ideal for hydrating dry skin and improving moisture balance. The HYDROMAX Skin Activator Sheet Mask is a great option for anyone looking for instant hydration and a refreshed complexion. This mask with hyaluronic acid and marine collagen plumps and smoothes the skin while improving the elasticity and firmness of your skin.
Protective mask
The mask from our innovative EPIGEN PROTECT skincare range protects the skin at a cellular level against harmful environmental influences and thus slows down its ageing process. The ultra-modern formula of the EPIGEN PROTECT Rescue Overnight Mask increases the skin's resistance to stress and provides intensive moisturisation. The luxurious foam mask helps the skin to recharge its ‘batteries’ and maintain a radiant, healthy and youthful appearance.
Anti-ageing masks
These masks help to reduce wrinkles and improve skin texture. They are ideal for mature skin or to prevent the visible signs of ageing. The AGE PREVENT Power Firm Mask is a nourishing and soothing face mask that regulates the moisture balance. A complex of Botox-like active ingredients helps to relax the facial muscles. Expression lines can be quickly minimised and fine lines gently reduced. The mask is suitable for dehydrated skin, especially for demanding and mature skin.
Soothing masks
Masks with ingredients such as jojoba oil, allantoin or panthenol have a soothing effect and help to relax irritated or sensitive skin. The intensively moisturising and soothing HYDROMAX Recovery Foam Mask regenerates tired and stressed skin and leaves a radiant complexion. The high-quality jojoba oil has an anti-inflammatory effect, effectively soothes the skin and leaves it soft and silky smooth.
Refreshing gel masks
Gel masks are cooling and refreshing. They moisturise the skin and are ideal for tired, dull skin that needs a little boost of freshness. The PRECISION CARE COLLAgen3D™ Gel Mask penetrates deep into the skin, revitalises and regenerates mature skin - for a youthful, radiant complexion. It increases skin hydration, repairs the skin barrier and reduces the visible signs of ageing. For an even more intensive effect, it can be combined with the DERMA EXPERT LED Light Treatment Mask.
How to apply your face mask correctly step-by-step
To get the most out of your mask, it's important to know how to apply it correctly. Here is a simple step-by-step guide to prepare your skin for the mask and give you a relaxing break at the same time.
Step 1 - Double cleansing
The first step in any skincare routine is to thoroughly cleanse the face, neck and décolleté. This is the only way for the mask to be fully effective. At QMS, we recommend double cleansing, consisting of the CLEANSE SYSTEM Gentle Cleansing Milk and the CLEANSE SYSTEM Energising Cleansing Gel.
Start with the Gentle Cleansing Milk, which gently and intensively removes make-up, water- and oil-soluble particles and other impurities from the skin without attacking its natural acid mantle and removing lipids. Apply to dry skin and massage in using circular movements. Then wet your hands with water and gently emulsify the milk. Now you can remove it with a damp QMS sponge or lukewarm water.
Follow with the Energising Cleansing Gel for a thorough cleanse. Apply the gel to damp skin, massage in circular movements and rinse off with warm water, or remove with the QMS sponge.
Step 2 - Toner
Finally, apply the Hydrating Toner directly or with a cotton pad, avoiding the eye area. This toner restores the skin's pH balance and prepares it for further care.
Step 3 - Applying the mask
Now it's time for the mask! Depending on the product, you can apply the mask evenly to the face with a soft, comfortable brush or your fingertips, avoiding the eye and mouth area. Massage the mask in gently and then relax for the specified application time (usually 10-20 minutes).
Step 4 - Relaxation and me-time
Now is the perfect time to simply do nothing. Lie back, close your eyes and savour the moment of peace. Take a deep breath, listen to your favourite music or meditate. The beginning of the year offers the ideal opportunity to pamper yourself and relax - treat yourself to this time out to regenerate your body and mind.
Step 5 - Remove mask and care
At the end of the application time, the excess should be massaged in or washed off with lukewarm water and the QMS sponge. Some of the masks, such as our HYDROMAX Skin Activator Sheet Mask, are not washed off, allowing them to develop their full effect. Moisturise your skin afterwards to preserve the skin's protection and enhance the effect of the mask.
Masks and self-care - more than just skin care
Using face masks is not only a way to pamper your skin, but also a valuable opportunity to consciously take time for yourself. January is the month of good intentions and reflection - perfect for starting a new, relaxed routine.
With the right mask and a pinch of relaxation, you can welcome in the new year with renewed energy and fresh, radiant skin. Don't forget that true beauty comes from within - and if you do something good for yourself regularly, you will not only see it in your skin, but also feel it in your well-being.
